How does voice chat work on Micup?

• Server voice channels: click the channel name to join and talk with everyone in it.
• Direct and group calls: talk by voice or video with one friend or with everyone in a group chat.
• Camera and screen sharing: turn on your camera during a call, or share a window or your whole screen.
• 3D rooms: on computers, a server voice channel opens as a 3D room unless its room theme is set to "None"; everyone is there as an avatar and talks by voice.

What do you get for free, and what does Plus add?

The Plus 4K and 60 fps option is a ceiling; the quality you actually get depends on your connection and device.

Does Micup have noise suppression?

Yes. The "Noise suppression" option under Settings › Voice & video cuts background sound from your microphone. DeepFilterNet, a neural filter, removes most background noise; you can also pick your browser or system's built-in filter, or turn suppression off. If your processor is under load, the app switches to the lighter RNNoise filter.

There are three processing profiles: the recommended "Focused voice" cleans up your mic for clear speech, "Direct input" sends your audio untouched, and "Custom" lets you set noise suppression, echo cancellation and automatic gain control one by one.

How does sound work in a 3D room?

With "3D audio" on, each speaker's voice comes from where they are in the room: you hear the person on your left from the left and the person opposite from the front. For seated people only the direction changes; when someone walks away their voice gets a little quieter, but no one becomes inaudible. A speaking character's mouth also moves with their voice. The Android app and phone browsers do not open the 3D room; there the voice channel works in the regular view.

Is there push-to-talk?

Yes. In a browser, push-to-talk works only while the Micup tab is focused. In the desktop app it works system-wide, so you can press the key to talk while a game is open.
