Is Micup safe?

Micup (micup.gg) requires users to be at least 15, or older where local law requires, puts a Report button next to every message, profile and server, and has a person review every report. Blocking, direct message controls and automatic spam protection work for everyone, and text messages are not end-to-end encrypted. Message text and voice chats are not run through sexual-content scanning; spam protection and the automod a community turns on detect repeated messages and rule-breaking links automatically.

What stops spam and unwanted messages?

Spam protection runs on the server automatically. We do not publish the thresholds, so they are harder to game.

  • Each account can start only a limited number of new direct message conversations per hour and per day; new accounts get a lower limit.
  • An account that starts many new conversations in a short time has to pass a captcha.
  • An account that sends the same message or link to many people by direct message is restricted automatically, and a report goes to the moderation team.
  • A message that spreads the same link or invite code across many channels in a short time is rejected.
  • New accounts can join only a limited number of servers per hour.

What is the minimum age, and how are teens protected?

You must be at least 15 to use Micup, or older where local law requires. Sign-up asks for your date of birth; accounts found to belong to someone under the minimum age are closed and their data deleted. Users aged 15 to 17 need the knowledge and consent of a parent or guardian.

Accounts of minors start with stricter settings: spaces marked for adults are off, and messages from strangers are limited more tightly. Child sexual abuse is zero tolerance; reports in that category skip the queue, with a review target of one hour.

Are my messages encrypted?

All data in transit is encrypted with TLS. Text messages are stored on our servers so the service can work and are not end-to-end encrypted by default, so they can be accessed for moderation review, security incidents and lawful legal requests.

Voice and video chats are not recorded or stored. Voice rooms have an optional media protection mode; it covers the audio and video stream only, not chat messages.

What should parents know?

  • Micup is not for children under 15, or under a higher local age limit, and users aged 15 to 17 need a parent's consent.
  • You can ask for your child's account to be closed and its data deleted through the Support page.
  • If your child is being harassed, report the content with Report, Child abuse before deleting it. Do not forward screenshots to others.
  • If there is immediate danger, contact the police first; a report to Micup does not replace that.

Frequently asked questions

How do I report someone on Micup?

Press the Report button next to the message, post, profile or server and pick a category. The report goes straight to the moderation queue with the link and time attached.

How fast are reports reviewed?

Targets: child abuse within 1 hour, imminent danger 2 hours, threats of violence 6 hours, hate speech and harassment 24 hours, spam 72 hours. These are targets, not guarantees.

How do I delete my account?

On the web or in the Windows app, go to User Settings, Account, Danger zone, Delete account. A 14-day waiting period follows; signing in during that time cancels the deletion.

Can I appeal a moderation decision?

Yes. Write to the address on the Support page within 7 days of the decision. A person reviews the appeal independently of any automated system and replies with the reasons.

What does Micup ask for at sign-up?

Signing up needs an email address, a username, a password and your date of birth. Micup does not ask for a phone number, an ID document or a face scan. Your age is your own statement.
