Micup vs Slack
Micup (micup.gg) suits communities and friend groups, with free voice channels, message history without a time limit and 3D rooms, while Slack is built for work, with workflows, integrations and per-user pricing. If you are running a company, stay on Slack; if you are running a community and using Slack because it was familiar, Micup costs less and keeps your history.

Where is Micup ahead for a community?
Slack charges by the person because a company is paying. A community usually has no budget, and its members come and go. Micup keeps every member free, and only people who want more pay for themselves.
- Cost: a 100-person community pays nothing on Micup. On Slack Pro the same group would cost $875 a month at the monthly list price.
- History: messages stay until you or an admin delete them. Slack free keeps 90 days.
- Voice: anyone can hop into a voice channel for free. A Slack free huddle is 2 people.
- Fun: voice channels can open as 3D rooms with table games, on computers, with no VR headset.
- Community tools: roles, channel permissions, automod through MicupBOT, 500 custom emoji and 500 stickers per server.
- A built-in Feed where people can post, follow each other and run polls.
Where is Slack ahead?
- Work: workflows and integrations with the tools companies use. Micup has bots and webhooks, not a work suite.
- Company buying: Slack has business plans, and Micup has no business plan or team billing.
- Files: Slack accepts files up to 1 GB. Micup stops at 25 MB, or 500 MB with Plus.
- iOS: Micup has no iOS app yet.
- Company data: Micup text messages are not end-to-end encrypted and are stored on its servers, so check your own requirements first.
How do you move a community from Slack to Micup?
- Create a free account and a server on micup.gg.
- Recreate your main channels and add voice channels. There is no Slack import, and messages do not move.
- Set roles for moderators and regular members.
- Post the link from “Invite friends” in your Slack workspace and pin it.
- Add a bot if you used Slack apps for welcome messages or moderation. Micup lists 7 official bots.
Should a company use Micup instead of Slack?
Usually not. Micup is a community app: it has no business plan or team billing, and text messages are not end-to-end encrypted. It suits a study group, a hobby community, an open source project chat or a small team that wants a shared voice room. For contracts, compliance and company tools, stay on Slack.
What does Slack cost a community?
Slack Pro is $8.75 per user per month at list price, or $7.25 billed yearly, so these are simple multiplications of the list price. On Micup each person may choose to buy Plus for themselves, and nobody has to.
| Members | Micup | Slack Pro, monthly list price |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | $0 | $87.50 a month |
| 100 | $0 | $875 a month |
| 1,000 | $0 | $8,750 a month |
