Micup vs TeamSpeak
Micup (micup.gg) gives a gaming group a free hosted server with voice, text, screen sharing and a browser version, while TeamSpeak sells hosted slots from $4.99 a month or lets you run your own server. Pick TeamSpeak if you want your own voice server close to your players; pick Micup if you want nothing to set up, plus text channels, 3D rooms and table games in the same app.

How do Micup and TeamSpeak compare?
Checked on both sides on 31 October 2026. TeamSpeak prices are in US dollars from its community options page. TeamSpeak 6 is still in beta and TeamSpeak 3 is the stable version, so some rows differ by version. "Not listed" means the cited page does not show it. We have not measured voice delay on either app, so there is no latency row.

Where is Micup ahead?
For a group that does not want to run or rent anything, Micup removes the first decision: a server is free, and there are no slots to count. People can join from a browser with nothing to install, once they have a free account.
- A server costs nothing. On TeamSpeak, the smallest hosted plan, Crew with 10 + 1 slots, is $4.99 a month.
- Voice is not sold by the slot. Channel limits are a setting, not a plan.
- One app holds voice, text channels, direct messages, a Feed, roles and bots.
- Neural noise suppression based on DeepFilterNet is free on the web and desktop apps, and it runs on your device.
- Between matches, a voice channel can open as a 3D room with table games, on a computer, with no VR headset.
- Micup's web app, server and desktop app are open source under AGPLv3, and the source of each release can be downloaded without an account.
Where is TeamSpeak ahead?
- You control the server. You can run TeamSpeak yourself; Micup is offered only as a hosted service.
- Distance can favour it. A TeamSpeak server near your players can be closer than Micup, whose voice servers are in Germany today. We have not measured the difference.
- iOS: there is a TeamSpeak 3 app for iPhone. Micup has none yet.
- It has a long history with gaming clans. If your group already runs TeamSpeak, there may be no reason to move.
- Its screen sharing is advertised at 4K and 60 fps in beta. Micup offers 720p at 30 fps free, and up to 4K at 60 fps with Plus. We could not confirm how TeamSpeak behaves on a free self-hosted server.
How do you move a TeamSpeak group to Micup?
- Create a free account and a server on micup.gg.
- Add voice channels to match your squads, then set the user limit on each one if you want one.
- Create roles for admins, officers and members, and set channel permissions.
- Use “Invite friends” to create a link and post it in your group. There is no import from TeamSpeak.
- Set up push-to-talk under Settings › Voice & video. In the desktop app it works while a game is open.
Which is better for low-latency voice?
We can't give you a number. We have not measured voice delay on Micup or TeamSpeak, and TeamSpeak's own low-latency wording is its own claim. What matters most in practice is how far you are from the server. A self-hosted TeamSpeak server next to your group can be very close; Micup's voice servers are in Germany today, which suits players in and around Europe better than players on other continents.
A simple test is ten minutes in a real match with your own group on both apps. A hosted Micup server is free, so that test costs nothing on our side.
What does a 25-player group pay?
On Micup, nothing: a server and voice channels are free, and Plus is an optional extra for individuals. On TeamSpeak, the Team plan with 25 + 2 slots is $8.99 a month. If someone in your group already runs a server, TeamSpeak 6's beta licence gives 32 slots, renewed every two months; larger licences and their prices are not out yet.
Who should pick which?
- Pick TeamSpeak if your clan wants its own server, already runs TeamSpeak, or needs an iPhone app today.
- Pick Micup if you want text and voice in one place, a free server, a browser option, or something to do between matches.
- Keep both if you like: Micup is free to try, and nothing needs to be moved first.
Frequently asked questions
Is Micup free compared to TeamSpeak?
Yes for servers. A Micup server is free. TeamSpeak hosted plans start at $4.99 a month for 10 plus 1 slots; running your own TeamSpeak 6 server uses a free 32-slot beta licence renewed every two months.
Does Micup have lower latency than TeamSpeak?
We do not know, and we will not claim it. Voice delay has not been measured on either app. Distance to the server matters most, and Micup voice servers are in Germany today.
Can I run Micup on my own server like TeamSpeak?
Micup is offered as a hosted service. The source code of its web app, server and desktop app is published under AGPLv3, but we do not offer or support a version you run yourself.
Does Micup have push-to-talk?
Yes. In a browser it works while the Micup tab is focused. In the desktop app it works system-wide, so you can use it during a game.
Does TeamSpeak have a web version?
Its downloads page lists Windows, macOS, Linux and mobile apps, and does not list a web client. Micup runs in a browser with nothing to install.
Is TeamSpeak 6 finished?
Not yet. On 31 October 2026 its server releases were still labelled beta, while TeamSpeak 3 is the stable version.
