Micup vs Telegram
Micup (micup.gg) is built around servers with text and voice channels, roles and 3D rooms, while Telegram is a messaging app that handles very large groups and files up to 2 GB. Use Telegram for reach and big files on any phone; use Micup when a community wants always-on voice channels, roles and 3D rooms on a computer.

Where is Micup ahead?
- Voice channels that stay open: people drop in and out of a channel, with nobody having to start a call.
- Server structure: categories, text and voice channels, roles, channel permissions, an audit log and automod through MicupBOT.
- 3D rooms: a voice channel can open as one of 5 3D rooms where people hang out as avatars, in a desktop browser or the desktop app, for free. No VR headset needed.
- Six table games are built into 3D rooms: Okey, 101 Okey, backgammon, chess, draughts and Turkish draughts.
- An open server: Micup's web app, server and desktop app are open source under AGPLv3. Telegram publishes its client apps, not its server.
Where is Telegram ahead?
- Files: 2 GB free and 4 GB with Premium, against 25 MB free and 500 MB with Plus on Micup.
- Reach: groups of 200,000 members and channels with no subscriber limit.
- iPhone: Telegram has an iOS app. Micup has none yet.
- Private chats: Secret Chats are end-to-end encrypted. Micup text messages are not.
How do you move a Telegram group to Micup?
- Create a free Micup account and a server.
- Create text channels for your main topics and voice channels for hanging out. There is no Telegram import, and messages do not move.
- Set roles for your admins.
- Post the link from “Invite friends” in your Telegram group and pin it.
- Keep the Telegram channel for announcements if you like. Micup has no announcement channel type today.
When does a Telegram group need something else?
Telegram is strong at sending a message to a lot of people. A server works differently: it splits a community into channels and keeps voice rooms open, so people can see who is around and join without anyone starting a call.
That is the gap Micup fills. If your group only needs announcements and files, stay on Telegram. If people want to hang out, talk while playing and keep topics apart, try a server.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use each in a browser?
Yes. Telegram has a web version, and Micup runs at micup.gg with nothing to install. Micup 3D rooms open only on a computer.
Is Telegram end-to-end encrypted?
Only Secret Chats. Telegram says regular cloud chats use client-server encryption. Micup text messages are not end-to-end encrypted either.
Which has larger file limits?
Telegram, by a lot: 2 GB free and 4 GB with Premium. Micup allows 25 MB free and 500 MB with Plus.
Does Telegram have voice channels?
It has voice chats and group calls you start in a group. Micup has server voice channels that stay open for anyone to join.
Does Micup have an iPhone app?
Not yet. It is in development, and you can use micup.gg in the iPhone browser for chat, without 3D rooms.
